How come so many actors can sing?

I think of it as having plenty of talent yet well-rounded. Nearly all performers on Broadway are required to be able to sing AND dance AND act. The actor is usually more successful if he is versatile in his entertaining abilities. Cause hey, why use some nobody when you can use someone who's already famous? He can do work in more fields than that other guy
