Should I save my money?

First, let me start off by telling you who I am. My name is Garret and I applied at target for sales associate and I got the job. This is my very first job and would like some financial advice. I will be working about 30 hours a week (on average) making $7.75. I remember when I was 10 years old I was told that if I put away 15% of each paycheck in a savings account from the time I start till the time I retire I will have a million dollars in that savings account. Now i know that it depends on what type of account and how much I make and what bank it is, but you see my point. I figure since my job at Target is not a carrier I shouldn't save 15% of my check because it is such a minute amount. That is what my parents told me at least. One more thing you should probably know, I do not have to pay for bills, insurance, rent or anything like that because my parents did it for my brother they said it is only fair even though I said do not worry about it. So my check is essentially pure spending money. I have a Suburban, nice phone, clothes, everything I need. I am only getting a job so I can afford my music habit. I am a musician who records and gigs and ETC and really need better equipment. So my question is, should i save a certain percent of each paycheck I ever make? What percent should that be? What specific account should I open for saving? Thanks a lot guys I really appreciate the help.
