Why and how do my eyes change color?

Okay so I have noticed that my eyes change color, which I think is pretty cool. But I have always wondered how and why my eyes change color. I have tried to study it and it seems that my eyes are a greenish topaz when I am happy-ish. And when I am sad they are more like a bluish gray. Why and how do they change color?
