How do i convict someone?

God is very important in my life, so i want to be friends with people who love God to. My friend is 15 and his parents never talked to him about God. I told him of my upbringing in the catholic church (i am no longer catholic im baptist) and he asked me what i thought of him not having a religion. I blatantly told him i don't believe in religion because it states in the bible that God hates religion (yes i realize i said that i am baptist but that is beside the point). So i want to help him out and im not exactly sure how to. Please help me to save Garret! ha
